Entry-level Nuclear Engineer (Fluence)

Sycamore, IL

TransWare Enterprises Inc. (TransWare) is an engineering consulting company with an office in northern Illinois. Since 1988, our experienced staff has delivered engineering services, innovative software, technical support, and management services to the nuclear and computer industries. We are currently seeking an entry-level nuclear engineer to support the Fluence and Reactor Analysis segment of our business.

 Position Description

The selected candidate will work with senior engineers on evaluating nuclear reactor fluence, reactor modeling and analysis, computational and uncertainty methods, and data collection & processing. Other responsibilities may involve fluence methods, code development and testing; transport methods; model validation; finite analysis methods; and fuel failure analyses.

Preferred Experience and Skills

Experience with MCNP, nuclear transport or lattice physics codes are highly valued. Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems is preferred.

 Education and Prior Experience

This is an entry-level position (0-2 years professional experience). B. S. or M. S. degree in Nuclear Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college is required. Candidates should have a strong academic record and the ability to demonstrate experience in project management and/or team leadership. Co-op or internship experience is a plus.

Entry-level Nuclear Engineer

Sycamore, IL

Position Description

At a consulting company, task assignments for an entry-level engineer vary, as the client work TransWare receives dictates work scope. Two primary areas of focus for our company are neutron fluence evaluations for commercial nuclear reactors and engineering support and services for dry cask storage efforts. Entry-level engineers will become familiar with nuclear fuels, reactor operation, and nuclear analysis software within the context of client assignments.

Most work of an entry-level engineer is performed under the direction of senior engineers and consultants. Entry-level engineers are given assignments in order to ascertain the engineer’s knowledge, aptitudes, and task management skills.

With demonstrated capabilities acquired from work experience and personal improvements, an entry-level engineer may be given greater responsibilities, such as project management assignments or time for research and development projects that are of interest to the engineer.

 General Job Requirements

  • Support needs and assignments of senior engineers and consultants
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. Peers and management review technical reports and procedures. Many assignments are documented in accordance with TransWare’s Quality Assurance program, a 10CFR50, Appendix B-compliant program.
